New Delhi: In a major step to boost clean energy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be laying the foundation stone of his most ambitious renewable energy project, jointly with French President Francois Hollande, who arrived here on a three-day visit.
Under this programme, the Prime Minister aims to tap the solar power for the country’s massive developmental means. The International Solar Alliance Headquarters will come up in the neighbouring Gurgaon and would be a major international body headquartered in India. Mr Modi, at the UN Sustainable Development Summit, had said that India would create 175 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2022.
According to officials, India has already achieved cumulative existing installed capacity of approximately 38 GW of solar, wind, small hydro and bio-energy. The vision 2022 of achieving the installed capacity of 175 GW, aims to transform the country through rapid strides in the renewable energy sector, job creation and skill development. On November 30 last year, on the sidelines of the 21st Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Mr Modi and Mr Hollande had jointly launched the ISA. Representatives from around 70 countries participated at the launch ceremony. (PTI)
