SHILLONG: Having failed to make the Baljek Airport near Tura functional, the State government has now devised a clever plan to turn the non functional airport into a hub of activity by planning to house surrendered militants there.
Reliable sources informed that preparations were on in full swing to provide shelter to surrendered UALA militants at the Baljek Airport that was built at a cost of Rs.12.52 crore.
The State government is also working out details of the surrender ceremony which would be organised after the list of cadres is submitted by UALA and subsequently verified.
Though majority of UALA cadres are willing to accept the offer of the government, the outfit’s self styled ‘commander in chief’ Norrok Momin did not attend the meeting to sign the peace pact.
Government officials, however, attributed Norrok’s absence from the meeting to his ill health.
