Senior BJP leader takes a dig at Cong

SHILLONG: Taking a dig at the previous UPA government, BJP Kisan Morcha national president Vijay Pal Singh Tomar alleged that more than 3.75 crore farmers in the country have changed their profession due to losses incurred by them.
Tomar, who is on a visit to the city, said on Friday that the erstwhile UPA Government worked against the interest of the farming community bringing about anti-farmer policies. Stating that 2.5 lakh farmers in the country have committed suicide in the last 15 years, he added that around 21 million metric tonne of farming products gets rotten.
He also said that 65 per cent of the cultivated land in India does not have any source of irrigation. He highlighted Modi Government’s allocation Rs 50,000 crore for Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana.
