Guwahati: Union Minister for Minority Affairs Dr Najma Heptulla on Saturday hit out at the Congress government in state, accusing it of ”lackadaisical attitude towards her ministry?s programmes and schemes in Assam.”
Addressing a press conference at the end of a three-day tour of the state, Dr Heptulla said, “The state government is only talking about the minorities but is not doing anything for their development.”
She alleged that the state failed to present completion reports and utilization certificates for projects under her ministry even after she herself wrote to the chief minister.
It was only when ministry officials visited Guwahati, they could manage to get the required papers, she said, adding that the state was also not forthcoming in submitting proposals for sanction from her ministry.
“It was after our persuasion that the state government finally submitted its proposal and we sanctioned Rs 128 crore under Minority Affairs ministry last week,” the minister said. She further alleged that the state government has not submitted any proposal for development of Wakf property, even after repeated reminders.
The minister had launched skill development programmes for madrassas and women capacity building and empowerment programmes during her tour of the state. (UNI)
