Awareness cum training programme held

SHILLONG: ICAR, KVK, West Garo Hills organized a one-day  awareness- cum-training programme on protection of plant varieties and farmer’s right on January 30 at KVK campus under the sponsorship of PPV & FR Authority, Government  of India, New Delhi.
89 farmers from 7 villages of West Garo Hills participated in the programme. A.S. Singh, Programme Coordinator, in charge  KVK, ICAR, West Garo Hills inaugurated the programme while Arun Kumar Singh, SMS (Soil Science) emphasized on the importance of farmers’ Rights Act, 2001 and the role of farmers in preserving and conserving important germ plasm.
Tarun Kr. Das, SMS (Agriculture Extension) coordinated the programme.
An exhibition was also organized  where various  local  germplasms of rice, pearl millet, pigeon pea, maize, Indian mustard, sesame, sugarcane, black pepper, turmeric , ginger, tomato, brinjal, okra, cabbage, potato, onion and garlic among others was exhibited.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks by programme assistant, KVK, ICAR, West Garo Hills, S. Borah.
