GNLA ultras held in Chokpot raid

TURA: A GNLA cadre who was part of a group of militants who had a brief encounter with police in January last year has been arrested from a village in Chokpot’s Deku region on Sunday morning along with a sentry of the outfit.
SWAT commandos from Baghmara raided Ganggugre village of Deku and arrested GNLA militant Tobiash Ch Marak (20) who went by the name of Changdul.
Along with him a GNLA sentry by the name of Rakran Ch Marak (18) was also caught in the police raid.
From his possession police recovered a 7.65 pistol with three live rounds and his GNLA identity card.
He revealed to police that he was part of a group of ultras who exchanged gunfire with a police team near Darenggre on January 27 last year.
He was earlier deputed by the GNLA to be part of the outfit’s west Garo Hills command before being transferred to the Chokpot region of South Garo Hills.
