SHILLONG: The AICC does not know the reason why Chief Minister Mukul  Sangma is not able to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi to discuss some pertinent issues concerning the state including the tussle between the Chief Minister  and KHADC chief PN Syiem on the issue of dual post.
When contacted over phone on Tuesday, the AICC general secretary in charge V Narayanasamy said, “I don’t know why he is not meeting the Congress president, you better ask him, why are you asking me? The Chief Minister is the right person to answer this question”.
After the dual-post issue and the lingering problems of empowerment of headmen among others had cropped up, the KHADC CEM PN Syiem had met the AICC chief and her deputy in Delhi and discussed the political situation in December last.
Recently, the Deputy Chief Minister incharge Law Rowell Lyngdoh also met the Congress president and discussed the disunity in the party and the political situation in the state.
An MPCC delegation led by its president DD Lapang will also hold discussions with the AICC leaders in Delhi on February 5 to bring unity in the party and the Chief Minister, however, is not  part of the delegation .
Downplaying the issue of Chief Minister not meeting Sonia, the  AICC general  secretary said,” the Chief Minister met me in Delhi and discussed many issues concerning the state”.
Dual-post at
discussion stage
The AICC leader also said that the high command was yet to take any decision on the dual post issue despite the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee apprising the matter with the High Command.
“We are still discussing the matter and we are seized of the issue”, the AICC leader said.
However, party sources said that to avoid any split in the party,  the High Command does not want to take any hurried action against  the KHADC CEM though he did not  resign from the post of  MDC after the Bill passed by the Congress led government  prohibiting holding of dual post took effect from October 1 last year.
Asked whether the AICC will wait for the verdict of the High Court and the reply of the Election Commission of India , Narayanasamy said,” We will take our own  decision”
