SHILLONG: The St Edmund’s Past Pupil Association (SEPPA) is all geared up to observe the centenary celebration of one of the oldest schools of the city, the St Edmunds School, Shillong.
Addressing a press conference here in the city on Wednesday, SEPPA Meghalaya president George Ritchmond Marbaniang said that they have planned a host of events for the big day which will be held from February 11 to 13
He said that more than 800 ex-students of the schools, especially of the 1940s batch now based in countries like England, America, Australia, Germany, Bangladesh and others are expected to participate in the celebration,
He also said two Irish Christian brothers will be among the delegation who will be visiting the State for the event.
The three-day centenary celebration of the school also coincides with the forthcoming 12th South Asian Games which will commence from February 5 – 16. Due to the Asian games, SEPPA is facing problems of accommodating its delegations as most of the hotels are booked for the SAG.
“There are some hiccups as SAG is also being held during that time. It has been a handicap for us as the State government has booked all the hotels,” Marbaniang said.
He, however, hoped the SAG event will not affect the celebration much.
Highlighting on the three-day activities during the centenary celebration, Marbaniang informed that there will be an informal meet of the Edmundians in City Dhaba on February 11, followed by a picnic to Sohra and an evening session, where speeches will be delivered by past pupils on February 12.
The final day will however feature activities like sports, prayer service and march-past by the five houses named after the former principals of the school at the school premises.
