SHILLONG: The Indigenous Citizens’ Forum of Simsanggre (ICFS) has questioned the delay in taking action against the Social Welfare minister Deborah Marak who was accused of violating the code of conduct and other laws of the land in the 2013 Assembly elections by using underground elements.
ICFS president Philson Sangma said in a statement that the democratic exercise to elect people’s representative in Williamnagar was mired in controversy involving the use of underground elements to disrupt free and fair elections and force a favourable result in favour of Marak.
He said that the front runner Jonathan Sangma was threatened with dire consequences and his supporters were openly intimidated. According to Sangma, Jonathan  even lodged an FIR with police and even made a complaint to the Election Commission of India and she was even charge sheeted but the minister being a powerful person saved herself.
“Is the so called high command protecting her or is it the chief minister saving her to protect himself,” he asked?
