4 Gold, 4 Silver guaranteed
SHILLONG: Stamping its supremacy, India on Saturday guaranteed itself at least eight medals, four gold and as many silver in individual archery events in the 12th South Asian Games 2016.
During the second day’s action at the First Ground, Polo, Indian archers dismissed competition to make it an all Indian affair in the finals slated for Monday and Tuesday.
The famed Deepika Kumari will face L Bombayla Devi in the women’s recurve final while in the men’s recurve, Tarundeep Rai and Gurucharan Besra will fight for the top honours.
Kumari, who received a bye straight into the quarterfinal, beat Sonam Deki of Bhutan 6-2 and went on to get the better of Bangladesh’s Beauty Ray 6-0.
Bombayla, meanwhile, had a tough fight against Sri Lanka’s Anuradha Karunaratne in the last right round but eventually made the cut beating her rival 6-5. Toughened, she made light work of Bhutan’s Karma, whom she beat 6-2. In the women’s compound final, Purvasha Sudhir Shende will face Jyothi Surekha Vennam while Abhishek Verma will take on Rajat Chauhan in the men’s category.
