Over Rs 16 crore lies unutilized with NEHU

SHILLONG: Even after the sale of NEHU’s Mayurbhanj Complex, Nongthymmai to the State Government, several crores of rupees deposited in the bank account of NEHU following the sale, has remained unutilized.
As per the reply to RTI query by CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing, over Rs 16 crore deposited by State Government, after the sale, was not utilized by NEHU.
The RTI applicant, however, did not receive reply on the date and year of sale of the complex, but it was approved by NEHU Executive Council during its 124th meeting.
The state government took possession of Mayurbhanj Complex after the money was deposited in the State Bank of India (SBI), NEHU branch.
The NEHU’s reply to RTI query said, “The amount received by the University for the sale of Mayurbhanj Complex has not been utilized for any purpose. The amount paid by the buyer (Government) was at the rate of Rs 14,26,37,045 and Rs 1,95,75,450, being the cost of rent for 45 months with effect from 01.04.2005 to 31.12.2008 at the rate of Rs 4,35,010 per month”.
However, there was no sale deed under taken by NEHU when the Executive Council of University approved the proposal to sell the complex.
According to the reply, no sale deed was taken except by the acquisition of land by Meghalaya Government.
Moreover, the reply said that no concurrence of UGC and MHRD was required as the matter was only intimated to these two bodies
Earlier, the plan of NEHU to sell the complex had come under criticism from the staff.
