Lapang takes up headmen’s empowerment with AICC

SHILLONG: While the issues related to the empowerment of headmen still lingering, the MPCC president DD Lapang met the AICC general secretary in charge Meghalaya V. Narayanasamy during his recent visit to Delhi and discussed the matter.
In a statement issued to the media on Sunday, Lapang said that during a separate meeting with Narayanasamy, he informed the AICC leader that the meeting of the Executive Committee of Meghalaya PCC discussed about the problems arising of the traditional headmen and also involvement of the government employees in the activities of local Dorbar and NGOs. Besides, Lapang informed Narayanasamy that the executive committee of PCC decided to urge  the AICC to re-constitute the Coordination Committee by including more members of the office bearers of the PCC who are not MLAs.
The AICC leader assured Lapang to take up the matter with Sonia Gandhi and also to explain to her about the suggestion of the party’s rank and file.
Lapang also submitted all the reports and proceedings of the Meghalaya PCC to Gandhi for her information and necessary action.
Earlier, during the meeting of the PCC presidents of various states held in Delhi on February 5 chaired by AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi , Lapang said that the  NDA government was  trying to minimize and reduce the release of fund under MGNREGA.
Lapang also took part in the discussion on Right To Information (RTI), FRA and Right To Education (RTE).
