SHILLONG: Indian compound archers had a great day out at the 12th South Asian Games grabbing as many as five gold and two silver medals at the First Ground, Polo here on Monday. The Indian archers bagged Gold in the compound men’s and women’s team events, compound mixed team event and compound men’s and women’s individual events. The silver medals came in the men’s and women’s individual events. In the compound men’s team event India beat Bhutan 230-219 to the Gold. In the corresponding women’s event India pipped Bangladesh 228-217 to emerge toppers. Bangladesh was again rendered second by the host nation in the compound mixed team event which India won 156-138. Purvasha Sudhir Shende walked away with the gold medal in the compound women’s individual event defeating fellow Indian, Jyoti Surekha Vennam 138- 133. Rajat Chauhan, meanwhile, edged past Abhishek Sharma by just 2 points in the compound men’s final to bag the gold medal.
