3 GNLA cadres held, 1 ANLA killed in encounter

SHILLONG: South Garo Hills police have arrested three hardcore GNLA civilian cadres, even as a senior ANLA  cadre was killed during an encounter with police on  Thursday at Mangsang  under Rongjeng police station.
The arrested GNLA cadres are Kancha, Hinen and Limbu.  They were working under Rakkam, the finance secretary of the banned outfit.
The trio, who were arrested from Siju Wathre under Nongalbibra police station, were involved in providing vital information about police movements  to GNLA besides collecting phone numbers of businessmen for extortion purpose, police said
During interrogation, they revealed that GNLA used to pay them Rs  3,000 for every  successful kidnapping and extortion.
Meanwhile, referring to the Mangsang incident, East Garo HillS  district police chief D Marak  said  a few militants  came to Nengkram Bazar and fired in the air
Police after getting the information about the presence of the militants launched an operation. In the exchange of fire between police and the militants one   Mickin Arengh died on the spot   while   others managed to escape.
