SHILLONG: Cabinet Minister A.L. Hek has settled rumours of him contesting from Nongthymmai constituency by asserting that he would continue to contest from Pynthorumkhrah.
Hek’s reaction came following reports that KHADC CEM P.N. Syiem was keen to contest from Pynthorumkhrah, and hence Hek may consider opting for Nongthymmai for the 2018 Assembly polls.
However, speaking to reporters, Hek said, “P.N. Syiem is not a threat and I have made it clear that I will contest elections from Pynthorumkhrah in 2018 which will mark 25 years of service to the masses if I am elected again.”
Hek said that some residents had approached him by stating that other parties will support him if he was willing to contest elections from Nongthymmai.
He also pointed out that Syiem may not get a ticket as he is an outsider.
“Syiem may have the support of the headmen’s body but I will not take this lightly and continue to work for the people,” Hek said.
He said that people in Meghalaya consider the service of the MLA as more important without bothering much on the party.
Hek also pointed out that people had elected him time and again regardless of whether he contested from Congress or BJP.
