Four among 39 rescued children hail from State

SHILLONG: Out of the 39 children, who were rescued from an illegally operating orphanage in Ri Bhoi, four children hail from Pillangkata in Ri Bhoi.
Director, Social Welfare, H.M. Shangpliang on Friday informed that the State government was waiting to hand over 35 children to the respective Child Welfare Committees of different states from where these children were brought to the orphanage.
Most of the rescued children hail from Mizoram and other Northeastern states.
The rescued children have been sheltered at Government homes in Shillong.
Meanwhile, the District Child Protection Office, Ri Bhoi, has filed an FIR with the police against the owner of the orphanage and police have begun investigating in the matter.
The children were rescued from ‘Home of Hope’ orphanage which was found to be functioning without being registered under the Juvenile Justice Act and without permission from the competent authority.
