SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has said that District and Sessions Judge, Ri-Bhoi District, Nongpoh E. Kharumnuid can try the case related to the ‘controversial’ death of P.J. Marbaniang.
The High Court in its hearing saw the letter dated February 3, 2016 addressed to the then Registrar General, High Court of Meghalaya, Shillong, by the then District and Sessions Judge, Ri-Bhoi District, Nongpoh, wherein, she had expressed her inability to try the case on the ground that she was the lawyer of one of the accused while she was practicing in the District Council Court, Shillong.
The High Court said that since the scenario has changed now and E. Kharumnuid had joined as the District and Sessions Judge, Nongpoh, he can try the matter.
The Court said that case record shall be sent along with all the documents immediately to the District and Sessions Judge, Nongpoh to try the matter as per the order passed by it earlier.
It may be mentioned that the then District and Sessions Judge, Nongpoh, is the lawyer of Centrewell Dolloi, president of FKJGP Western Zone, who was arrested earlier for allegedly exerting pressure on P.J. Marbaniang which led him to ‘commit suicide’.
