Guwahati: Former minister in Tarun Gogoi’s cabinet and now a BJP leader in Assam, Dr Himanta Bishwa Sharma on Friday said he would file a Rs 100 crore defamation suit against his former boss Gogoi on Saturday for making a defamatory comment against him.
Gogoi has claimed before media that alleged Sharma was in touch with a section of Congress leaders in New Delhi to re-join the party.
Himanta Bishwa Sharma who had left Congress in September last year to join the BJP, is still maintaining relations with some Congress leaders in New Delhi.
On being asked whether there was possibility of Sharma returning to the Congress fold, Gogoi said, “The decision will be taken by the Congress high command, but I will oppose it. He is power-hungry and very good at changing camp — from ULFA, AGP, Congress and finally the BJP. He is too smart to his own good. I myself and former chief minister Late Hiteswar Saikia were at the receiving end because of his untrustworthy nature.”
“Wherever he (Himanta) goes, he brings misfortune. It is now the BJP’s turn,” Gogoi added and alleged that Himanta tried to derail the winning streak of Congress party in the last Assembly election of 2011, but in vain. “Tomorrow, I am going to file a RS 100 crore defamation case against Taun Gogoi for his defamatory statement that I am going to re-join Congress,” Himanta Bishwa Sharma tweeted on Saturday.Sharma had already filed another defamation suit against Gogoi for making false allegations against him and the case was still pending in the court. Gogoi appeared in the court in the firs hearing of the earlier case
