Nongkhnum Fest on March 18-19

NONGSTOIN: A two-day Nongkhnum Festival will be jointly organised on March 18 and 19 at Nongkhnum River Island by the District Arts & Culture Society, West Khasi Hills and the Apple Society, Nongstoin.
Addressing a press conference here at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office on Monday, S. Kharlyngdoh, Chairman, District Arts & Culture Society, said the Nongkhnum Festival will showcase lots of new events to attract not only the locals but also people from different State across India.
Kharlyngdoh was optimistic that the Nongkhnum Festival would be a successful venture. He requested all the sub-committee members to work with dedication to make the events successful. He made a specific emphasis on proper management of food, lodging, sanitation and venue.
S. Warjri, member secretary of the DA&CS informed that the main attraction would include events like cultural songs and dances, off road and auto cross for (Jeeps and Gypsys), Kudiang (tree climbing), traditional rice beer drinking competition, baby show, Miss Nongstoin, indigenous wine festival and exhibition cum sale of souvenir and handicraft by the District Commerce Industries, Nongstoin.
Lumbor Mawsor, chairman of the Fashion Cell,       Apple Society, appealed to the local residents of Nongstoin to change their attitude and accord a hearty welcome to the tourists from different States who would be attending the Festival so as to promote Nongkhnum as one of the tourist attractions in the State.
He made it clear that Nongkhnum River Island would be declared as a ‘no plastic zone’ during the course of the Festival.
