TURA: Suspected GNLA militants have abducted a driver and his assistant while they were working on a central road project in Ganol Songma village, approximately 10 kms from Tura, on Wednesday night.
The duo — Kuttu Rai of Bongaigaon and Faruk Sheikh of Kanaimara Singimari —  was operating the earth moving vehicle (JCB) which had been engaged by a local contractor for a road project under the Centrally-sponsored  Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana at Ganol Songma, not far from the aloe vera factory, when they were taken away at gunpoint.
According to police sources, a group of six to seven men descended from the nearby jungles and took the two captive at around 8:30pm.
This is the third instance of abduction of JCB drivers by militants in recent times.
