Sensitization programme on Rapid Visual Screening

SHILLONG: A one-day sensitization programme for engineers on Rapid Visual Screening (RVS) of buildings for potential seismic hazards was organized by Meghalaya Administrative Training Institute, (MATI), Shillong, in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority, (DDMA), Nongstoin on February 18.
The training programme aimed at acquainting engineers with the various aspects for Rapid Visual Screening of critical lifeline buildings.
ADC cum Chief Executive  Officer, DDMA, Nongstoin, J. P. Lakiang, who inaugurated the programme, said that Meghalaya falls under seismic zone-V, and the procedure in assessing the buildings will help in reducing the impact of earthquakes thereby bringing about disaster preparedness.
The RVS procedure comprises a method and several forms that help users to quickly identify, inventory, and score buildings according to their risk of collapse if hit by major earthquakes.
