Justice Maheshwari to take over as Chief Justice on Wednesday

SHILLONG: Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, a senior judge at the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court will assume charge as the Chief Justice of High Court of Meghalaya on Wednesday.
An official source said on Sunday that Justice Maheshwari will be sworn in as the Chief Justice at Raj Bhavan by Meghalaya Governor V. Shanmuganathan on February 24 at 10 AM.
The post of the Chief Justice of the High Court fell vacant after the retirement of Chief Justice Uma Nath Singh on January 14.
) Pending the appointment of a new Chief Justice, Justice T.N.K. Singh had functioned as Acting Chief Justice till his retirement on February 1.
Later, the lone Judge in the High Court, Justice S.R. Sen was appointed as the Acting Chief Justice.
Sources said that with the current norm of one Chief Justice and three more Judges in every High Court, there will be appointment of two more Judges in the High Court.
