The march which was led by ABVP’s national secretary Hari Barikar was participated by over 500 ABVP members who appealed to the youth in the country to remain prepared to protect the country from divisive forces.
The rally demanded exemplary punishment to those anti-Indian elements involved in the JNU episode that arose out of the holding a commemorative meeting Afzal Guru who was hanged after he had been found involved in the attack launched on Indian Parliament.
In a statement issued by the ABVP state unit said that the section of anti-national elements who had gathered and raised slogans against India in the JNU campus while observing martyr’s day for Afzal Guru, was posing threat to the integrity and unity of the country.
It stated that victory celebrations were organized in the JNU campus in the past also on occasions when Maoists had killed Indian security forces personnel and such anti-India elements were led by a section of Left organisations and a section of teachers .
The ABVP stated it was dangerous development for the country that following the recent JNU episode, anti-India slogans were also raised in Jadavpur University in West Bengal while ISIS took out ‘thank JNU’ rally in Kashmir on February 18 last.
The ABVP lambasted the Left parties for raising the question of freedom of speech over the arrest of JNU students leader Kanhaiya Kumar and stated that freedom of speech as enshrined in the Constitution of India did not approve of raising slogans like `India Go back’ as was raised in the JNU campus that day.
