SHILLONG: Altogether 164 units of the Nongmynsong housing complex will be inaugurated on Monday. Informing this here on Wednesday, Urban Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said the list of beneficiaries was compiled a long time ago. She informed that the housing units have been installed with prepaid water and electricity meters She added that construction work for another 100 units would begin shortly and would be completed either by December this year or January next year.”We plan to hand over the remaining units to the people as a new year’s gift,” she added. The project has gone through several ups and downs and initially it was Hindustan Prefab Limited (HPL) which was assigned the work for implementing it. Later, the State government terminated HPL’s contract and Meghalaya Urban Development Authority (MUDA) was given the responsibility of completing the construction of the abandoned housing project under JNNURM in Nongmynsong on its own. Meanwhile, the Urban Affairs minister informed that the housing project at Tura has been completed and would be inaugurated shortly.
