Youths assured of employment through two-day job fair in city

SHILLONG: A two-day job fair in the city which concluded on Wednesday organized by the State government in association with Meghalaya Information Technology Society turned a blessing in disguise for scores of job aspirants most of whom got confirmed jobs, first round offers and final round selection over the course of the two days.
A total 16 companies participated in the job fair. Most of the 16 companies who interviewed the aspirants are local.
The job fair was the culmination of years of collaboration between Meghalaya Information Technology Society (MITS), ETPL and Symantec.
The collaboration has resulted in a comprehensive programme of training and employment opportunities for as many as 1,880 youths of Meghalaya.
The skill development programme was floated by D.P. Wahlang, Commissioner and Secretary, IT department. The programme started in 2011 and was completed in 2015.
The concluding milestone of the IT Skill Development programme was the successful holding of the job fair held in the city.
The job fair was attended by over 550 certified trainees of the skill development project.
