TURA: The BJP has announced that it plans to contest in all the 24 assembly seats in the Garo Hills in the upcoming 2018 elections and claims there is an ‘overwhelming’ support for the party from the people of Garo Hills.
“Our visit to Garo Hills was very successful. People were very welcoming wherever we went and we found this is because the Congress is fast losing ground in the region. For the last two decades there were only two parties dominating politics in Garo Hills. Now people want a viable alternative and BJP seeks to provide that much needed reprieve,” said BJP Meghalaya unit president Shibun Lyngdoh.
Dispelling apprehensions about the party being anti-minority, the BJP president clarified that Goa is a BJP-ruled state despite a majority of Goans being Christians.
Lyngdoh also added that his party which had supported the veteran P A Sangma’s candidature for the President of India’s election reposing their faith in this leader from the North-East.
