Govt mulls bringing Shillong Science Centre on tourist radar

SHILLONG: The State Government is contemplating to promote the Shillong Science Centre (SSC) located at NEHU as a tourist destination in the city. In its 10 years of existence, the centre has had over 1.17 lakh visitors despite not being located at the heart of the city.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, Science & Technology Cell Planning Department, Research Officer and in-charge of SSC, H Nongbri informed that the Government will constructing a digital planetarium and an innovation hub bringing the SSC at par with other such centres across the country.
According to him, the department is also contemplating to place an aquarium, time machine, geo gallery and non-conventional park at the Centre.
Meanwhile, the decade-long journey of the SSC will be celebrated along with the National Science Day at the Convention Hall, NEHU Campus from February 26 to 27.
