Meghalaya Farmers’ Union submits memo to Mukul

SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee of All Meghalaya Farmers Union has asked the State Government to come up with agriculture policy for the benefit of farmers in the state.
Speaking to media persons after submitting a memorandum to Chief Minister Mukul Sangma here on Wednesday, the chairman of the committee, Commander Shangpliang also asked all the sixty MLAs to raise the matter in the upcoming Budget session starting from Friday. The Committee also said that the government now should give recognition to broom straw or bundling straw for sweeping as agricultural produce.
The Committee also demanded that the full fledged District Agriculture officer and District Horticulture officer should be appointed at Khliehriat and Nongpoh.
Meanwhile, the Committee also welcomed the Union budget of the NDA government while terming it  as pro farmer.
