SHILLONG: The Meghalaya SSA Teachers’ Association has decided to discontinue its agitation against the government after they were assured by State Project Director, SSA, and Education Secretary Frederick R. Kharkongor, that their demands would be ‘examined’.
Manbhabok Kharraswai, president of the Association, in a press conference here on Thursday, said, “We request the teachers to suspend their stir. Kharkongor has also assured us that he will send a proposal to the State government with regards to salary hike.”
“The proposal is to enable us to enjoy the highest basic pay as per the 5th Pay Commission according to Meghalaya Pay Commission,” he added.
It may be reminded that some of the demands of the SSA Teachers’ Association include implementation of the rules and regulations of the SSA and RTE Act, 2009 and transfer of posts of SSA teachers (Primary and Upper Primary) from the State Implementation Society of SSA State Education Authority Meghalaya (SSA-SEMAM) to the Directorate of School Education and Literacy and regularization of the services of SSA teachers.
