Lackadaisical attitude of MTC, passengers suffer

SHILLONG: As many as thirty passengers from Shillong were stranded for hours in a Silchar-bound MTC bus after the vehicle broke down at Khliehtyrshi on Friday.
As a result of it, passengers reached their respective destinations only on Saturday. Some passengers said that the bus started the journey from Shillong at 8. 45 am on Friday though the departure time was 8 am.
At around 10 am, the bus broke down at Khliehtyrsh near 3rd MLP battalion and the bus could not be repaired and despite calling the MTC authorities, the alternative bus reached the place only at 5 pm. Some passengers said that they were scheduled to reach Silchar at 5 pm on Friday evening but they reached Silchar at 3 am on Saturday.
“We were without food and water for hours,” a passenger said, adding that though some mechanics came from Jowai but they could not repair the bus.
