Guwahati: JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar is likely to campaign for the Left parties in next month’s Assam Assembly election. “Kanhaiya Kumar could campaign for Left parties in Assam, if our party central leadership decides to engage him here,” CPM leader Deven Bhattacharya said here on Monday, announcing coming together of all six Left parties for Assam polls, under the banner of United Left Forum.
CPI leader Drupad Borgohain, who was present on the occasion, also said there was a possibility of Kumar campaigning in Assam. The JNUSU president, who is facing sedition charges, is likely to campaign for the Left parties in West Bengal and Kerala also.
Tripura CM and CPM leader Manik Sarkar has already confirmed of campaigning in Assam. Bhattacharya said they will request other top leaders, including politburo members, to campaign in Assam but simultaneous election in West Bengal and Kerala could make availability of top leaders difficult.
He said, the Left parties have come together to fight the ‘corrupt’ Congress and ‘divisive and communal’ politics of the BJP. The Forum will be contesting in 59 out of 126 Assembly constituencies in the two phase election in the state on April 4 and 11 next.
