Bamboo fest at NEHU

SHILLONG: A seven-day event centered around bamboo that commenced on March 10 is underway at the department of Cultural and Creative Studies, NEHU, Shillong.
The event is aimed at motivating public participation to ensure the preservation, cultivation, awareness and promotion of bamboo products in order to encourage the innovative utilization of bamboo articles; and also to facilitate eco-friendly cultivation of bamboo orchards and promote the positive aspect of bamboo crafts. Therefore, ensuring folk practices of the ancient technology and its preservation through creative method which may be explored further.
The festival encompasses an academic Symposium, workshop on bamboo, exposition of workshop products with their relevant usages, Art installations with bamboo materials, exhibition of bamboo craft and heritage structures, theatre performances with storyline on bamboo, storytelling session on bamboo folktales and film screenings.
