Limited stop trains in Kashmir from next month: Railways
Srinagar: Limited stop trains will be introduced in Kashmir from next month to meet the heavy rush of passengers especially during peak hours. “The limited stop trains will be flagged off in April,” an officials spokesperson said on Friday. A meeting chaired by Divisional Commissioner, Asgar Hassan Samoon and attended by Chief Area Manager, northern Railway, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Railways among others was convened yesterday to review the functioning of train services in the Valley, the spokesman said. Additional 26 bogies and six engines have been received which would start functioning soon, railway officials said. The railway officials stressed on the need for increasing frequency of trains during peak morning and evening hours and enhancing seat reservation in the trains for women. Samoon stressed for better coordination between Railway and Police authorities for prior information regarding cancellation of trains. He also emphasised on measures to be taken for transparency in issuing train tickets, wide publicity regarding train timings, installation of additional CCTVs besides adequate security arrangements at Railway stations, the spokesman said. Indian Army chopper crash lands
Hoshiarpur: An Indian Army helicopter made an emergency landing in the fields near Nehar Colony at village Maili this morning.. Major Guriqbal Singh and Lt Col BS Chohan of Jalandhar, were injured in this incident at which occurred 1145 hrs. According to police, the helicopter took off at about 1100 hrs from Jalandhar to make surveillance of the area. Due to a technical snag the pilot made an emergency landing. Four officers Commandant Aditya Verma, Deputy Commandant Ajit Singh, Major Guriqbal Singh and Lt Col BS Chohan were onboard the helicopter. On receiving information, Army choppers from Jalandhar rushed and carried them back. (UNI)
Health Minister asks AIIMS to conduct own probe in info ‘leak’ case
New Delhi: Union Health Ministry has asked AIIMS to investigate “appropriately” a matter involving “leakage” of information to a particular media organisation after the premier institue requested for a probe by Intelligence Bureau in the case. The ministry in its letter dated January 7 asked All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to conduct its own probe. “The matter has been considered in the ministry. The institute is requested to investigate the matter appropriately. This issues with the approval of Health and Family Welfare Ministry,” it said in its letter to the Director of AIIMS. Health Ministry sources said that this was an internal matter of the AIIMS and there is no possibility of referring the matter to the IB. Apparently, AIIMS Deputy Director (Administration) had written to the ministry seeking an IB investigation into “leakage” of official documents from AIIMS to a media organisation for identifying the unnamed “source” from the institute. Rajya Sabha congratulates ISRO
New Delhi: The Rajya Sabha on Friday congratulated the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) for the successful launch of the sixth regional navigational satellite. ISRO on Thursday successfully put into orbit its sixth navigation satellite called IRNSS-1F with its own rocket in copybook style.Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Hamid Ansari said it has added “yet another precious milestone” in ISRO’s history. “I congratulate the scientists, engineers and technicians,” he said.With the successful launch of IRNSS-1F, India has moved closer towards joining a select group of nations possessing their own satellite-based navigation system.
