Medical college work not on track, House told

SHILLONG: After signing the agreement in 2012, the work for the Shillong Medical College is yet to start.
Health Minister AL Hek informed the Assembly on Monday that the work for the Shillong medical college was yet to start “since the land at Reid Provincial Chest Hospital could not be handed over to KPC Medical College and Hospital, Jadavpur, the successful bidder”.
In reply to a question by Diosstarness Jyndiang (HSPDP), the Health Minister said that the Reid Provincial  Chest Hospital is still functioning from the existing campus.
Hek said it was in 2012 that agreement was made to start the work for the Shillong medical college for Rs 250 crore.
To a supplementary question by Ardent Basaiawmoit, the Health Minister said that 90% of the work for the new TB hospital has been completed at Mawdiangdiang and the patients will be shifted there after the completion of the construction.
Anti-rabies vaccine
Replying to a separate question by  Titos Chyne (UDP) , Hek said that the anti-rabies vaccine can be made available to PHCs and CHCs only after intents are made by the authorities concerned.
He said that the anti-rabies vaccine is free of cost, but the rate charged from APL families is Rs 20.
He said the anti-rabies vaccine is available at Director of Health Services,(Research) Shillong, District Medical and Health  Officers of Jowai, Tura,Baghmara and Medical Superintends of  Civil Hospitals, Nongstoin,Tura and Mairang.
