Guwahati: The proscribed United Liberation Front of Assam (Independent) has warned the people to against attending any election meeting of Bhaskar Sarmah, who has been fielded by the BJP as its candidate from Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC) in eastern Assam.
The ULFA (I) in a statement emailed to the media here, the militant group accused Bhaskar Sharma as one of the `secret killers’ who had eliminated so many kin of ULFA men in Assam during 1996 to April, 2001 and warned that it would target all election-related programmes of the BJP candidate. The BJP has fielded Bhaskar Sarmah in Margherita LAC against the sitting senior Congress MLA and former minister Pradyut Bardoloi who has been representing the LAC since 2001.
The ULFA (I) alleged that the BJP candidate was one of the main executor of the ‘secret killings’, the blue print of which was prepared at `infamous’ Usha Court in the heart of Guwahati city. The ULFA hawks stated that it had identified those who were out to make a public leader out of this anti-national and anti-people person and warned them of serious consequences if they failed to leave the company of Bhaskar Sarmah in no time.
The outfit also warned against any quarter trying to subject common people to danger by persuading common people for supporting Bhaskar Sarmah at the directive of the BJP.The ULFA (I) is opposed to holding talks with the Government of India unless its main demand for a `sovereign Assam’ is not discussed.
Its commander-in-chief Paresh Barua is suspected to be taking shelter in Myanmar. He suspected to be the key men behind organizing Northeast militant groups based in Myanmar under a common banner to fight Indian security forces jointly in the Northeast.
