Non-completion of Nongstoin-Mawthawpdah Road

SHILLONG: The FKJGP, Greater Nongkhnum Circle comprising of villages- Tynrong Wahladew, Nongsohlait, Lawse, Sohparu, Diengsyiang, Dilingim, Mawduh, Mawthar, Mawthawphet and Sangriang have lodged a complaint with West Khasi Hills district Council for non-completion of the Black Topping of Nongstoin Mawthawpdah Road.
In the memorandum submitted to the DC, the NGO said that the condition of the road with which the people travel for festival at Nongkhnum Island is very rough.
The NGO said that P.W.D Department has sanctioned Black Topping of this road (Nongstoin Mawthawpdah – Sangriang 6Km – 8Km) but failed to complete the work since the contractors who allotted with the work could not complete the project on time.
The NGO said that the department later revised the estimate of the same work by June, 2014 and allotted the work to Brington K.Bani and Herbert K.Bani of Mawiong Lumsyntiew and Upper New-Nongstoin respectively at a revised estimate of Rs. 64, 17,706.
The NGO however said that contractors are unwilling to do their job and have completed the work  only up to the first coat of metalling, adding that contractors have withdrawn the running bill of Rs. 26,19,197 upto March, 2015  which is nearly half of the total estimated amount.
The FKJGP said that they have got all the information through RTI and alleged that two contractors who are also unwilling to restart and complete the work have withdrawn a huge amount of running bill.
