SHILLONG: The Opposition UDP has expressed concern over the move of the State government to recommend the name of Selma D Shira as nominated MDC of the GHADC.
“It is very disheartening to see the move of the government to nominate a person other than GHADC nominee Conrad Sangma, which has added to the existing strain and confrontation between ADCs and the government,” UDP vice president Allantry F. Dkhar said in a statement on Thursday.  According to the UDP, this move will only further strengthen the element of distrust which will be counter-productive to the relationship between the ADCs and government, resulting in losses for the very people these institutions have been set to serve.
The UDP leader also said that an institutional mechanism should be put in place to avoid future occurrence of similar situation.
“While stability has been the mainstay of governance, anything short of that is questionable,” Dkhar said.
