IIM Shillong’s 5th Annual International Sustainability Conference concludes

SHILLONG: The 5th edition of SusCon, the Annual International Conference on Sustainability, founded on the theme, “Making the Planet more Liveable: Inspiration, Innovation, and Inclusion” concluded at IIM Shillong on Saturday.
The conference was a humble tribute to Late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
The three-day conference which started on March 17 was flagged off with a welcome address by Dr. Amitabha De, Director, IIM Shillong. The chief guest of the event, L. W. Khongwir, Executive Director, Indian Oil Corporation remarked, “Our true tribute to Dr. Kalam would be to continue in his footsteps in aiding the development of the nation.”
He also highlighted the sustainable practices followed by the organization.
The guest of honour, Pannalal Das, GM of State Bank of India said, “Sustainability is a driver for innovation.”
The Conference encompassed a series of five plenary sessions which witnessed some stimulating ideas being brought to the forum by dignitaries such as Bimal Arora, Chairperson – Centre for Responsible Business UK and India, Biren Bhuta, Chief of CSR Tata Steel, Sarit K Das, Director IIT Ropar, Ashish Gupta, Joint Secretary Ministry of Home Affairs, and Mark Laitflang Stone, CEO Avenues Academy Shillong, among others.
The plenary sessions saw a discussion on themes ranging from leadership, organization, finance, technology, globalization and mindspace, and their integration with sustainability.
The Committee received over 100 papers from leading institutions from the country and abroad covering various crucial topics including climate change, microfinance, green marketing, development finance, clean technology, developmental economics, and CSR.
