SHILLONG: A major mishap was averted due to the timely intervention of the fire service personnel who doused the fire on the Assembly premises at Rilbong on Monday afternoon.
The fire which probably originated from the bushes near the canteen of the Assembly spread to the pine trees at different intervals first at around 2. 30 pm and later at 4 pm.
As the fire tenders were already stationed at the Assembly premises due to the ongoing Budget session of the Assembly, the fire was prevented from spreading to the canteen and the nearby buildings.
