Caving expedition culminates in State on a high note

SHILLONG: The 2016 Caving in the Abode of Clouds Expedition took place between February 1-25 with an ongoing exploration of Krem Chympe, India’s sixth longest cave, from its upper entrance in the village of Seilkan, East Jaintia Hills and then to undertake new exploration in Mawsynram/ Mawlongbna in East Khasi Hills.
In a press statement, Brian D. Kharpran Daly, general secretary of Meghalaya Adventures’ Association said the expedition team this year comprised of 27 cavers from Austria, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Switzerland, Ireland, United Kingdom along with members of Meghalaya Adventures’ Association.
The main achievement of the exploration was the extension of Krem Chympe from 12,589 to 13,332 in length by the exploration of more new passage.
There are over 1,610 caves and cave locations of Meghalaya of which 1000 have been explored or partially explored.
