SHILLONG: The sorry state of affairs in the Education sector with schools having single teachers, meager salary to the teachers and lack of proper buildings to impart education was highlighted by Witting Mawsor (HSPDP) while taking part in the discussion on the functioning of the Education department in the Assembly on Wednesday.
Citing a case, Mawsor pointed out that teachers, who were hopeful of getting good salary, were often disappointed after their appointments.
He said that the government should also look into the schools where there is only a single teacher.
The legislator said that proper school buildings should also be constructed by the government as part of improving the quality of education.
Mawsor said that compared to other colleges in the State, the Nongstoin College has only seven teaching staff which needs to be examined by the government.
Saleng Sangma (Independent) asked the government to check the high drop- out rate in the State.
