SHILLONG:    The Health and Family Welfare department has claimed that it has plugged all the loopholes in the implementation of Megha Health Insurance Scheme-II.
Indicating his here on Thursday, a Health department official said that now the scheme is being implemented smoothly.
As on March   15, 2016 an amount of Rs 13,91,78,968 has been settled by the insurance company while an amount of Rs 20,50,72,179 has been raised by the hospitals under the scheme, the official said
Earlier, several discrepancies came to light in the implementation of MHIS following which the Subordinate Committee of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly had slammed officials of the Health department alleging that MHIS was not being implemented in a proper manner and that many hospitals had stopped accepting the MHIS card.”All the issues with the   insurance company have been settled,” the official said. According to the official, a total of   32413 patients ( 21833  female and   10580  male)  have used the MHIS  for their treatment in different hospitals of the state.
The second phase of the Megha Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), was rolled out last year  and initially, MHIS-II had targeted to cover 7,59,515 households in Meghalaya with the policy period commencing from August 1, 2015.  The enhanced version of the MHIS was launched with the Meghalaya government entering into an agreement with New India Assurance Company Ltd. The version two of the scheme, dubbed MHIS-II, was rolled out to provide a comprehensive and universal health insurance cover to the entire population of the state.
The scheme is more beneficial to people due to increase in the number of packages from 1142 to 1704. The MHIS-II is an initiative of the Meghalaya government and has been designed in convergence mode with the Centre’s existing health insurance scheme, Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY). While the RSBY provides Rs 30,000 health insurance cover to only BPL families, MHIS offers an enhanced coverage of up to Rs 2 lakh to all the families of the state, in addition to providing a top-up for BPL families under RSBY.
