SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee of All Teachers’ Associations of Meghalaya (JACATAM) has pleaded Union Minister of Human Resources Development Smriti Zubin Irani to provincialise the teachers serving in the State.
The JACATAM on Tuesday met the Union minister here and apprised her of the problems faced by the teaching community in the State.
In a memorandum submitted to the Union HRD minister, the JACATAM insisted that the life of as many as 38,000 teachers in Meghalaya was at bets pathetic.
The Association informed Irani that there are confusing number of categories in schools and colleges in the State and requested for provincialization of teachers’ services.
On the other hand, JACATAM also asked the Union minister to setup medical and technical institutes in the State saying that there was no engineering and agricultural college in the State.
Meanwhile, the All Meghalaya SSA Schools Teachers’ Association also met the Union minister and asked for the enhancement of the salary of teachers.
The Association also said that the service of SSA school teachers should be regularized as they have been serving for years now.
The Members of the Federation of All Meghalaya Ad hoc Secondary Teachers Association (FAMASTA) led by its president Bina Kharumnuid also met Minister, and submitted a memorandum with regards to the long pending demands of the Ad hoc secondary teachers of the State. The members urged the Minister to intervene into matter and take up their demands with the State government.
The Union Minister, while acknowledging the grievances as highlighted by the Federation, assured to take up the matter with the State Education Minister.
