SHILLONG: The High Court of Meghalaya has listed the matter of conducting municipal polls in Shillong on April 4.
In the hearing on Thursday, the Division Bench of the High Court adjourned the matter.
“Senior Government Advocate N.D. Chullai prays for further time to complete all his instructions. Though reluctantly, at the request of the learned Senior Government Advocate, we adjourn the matter today,” the court order said.
It was in 1999 that the Supreme Court had directed the Meghalaya Government to conduct municipal polls in Shillong within 6 months, but the directive has not been adhered to by the government.
Recently, a citizen filed a petition on the matter before the High Court of Meghalaya and the Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari had asked the High Court office to treat it as a Public Interest Litigation (PIL).
