Deadline for payment of coal royalty extended

SHILLONG: The National Green Tribunal on Thursday extended the deadline for acceptance of payment of royalty on extracted coal up to April 15.
Informing this over phone from Delhi, counsel of the State government Ranjan Mukherjee said the NGT also directed the State Government to constitute a committee for restoration of environment and water bodies under the chairmanship of the chief secretary.
The State government has also been asked to file a status report on the same.
According to Mukherjee, with regards to coal mining, the State government has submitted its mining plan to the Union Ministry of Coal which has raised objection to certain points and has asked the State government to rectify the points and give its response within four weeks.
