SHILLONG: The 1st Institute day function of NIT Meghalaya was celebrated at its premises at Bijni Complex, Laitumkhrah on Friday
The NIT Meghalaya Society was formed on April 1, 2010 and its Board of Governors resolved to celebrate this day as the Institute day.
The Institute has completed four years in its current campus and its permanent campus is under development at Sohra.
The day started with Prof D. K. Basu, Chairman Board of Governors hoisting the Institute flag.
The chief guest for the 1st Institute day function IT Minister A. L. Hek welcomed the students from different states of India to Meghalaya by calling it a “Home away from Home” He said that the people of Meghalaya are the guardians and parents of the students hailing from the other states which was welcomed by everyone.
Hek recalled that NIT Meghalaya as an Institute par excellence and assured all help to the Institute from his Department and on behalf of the Government.
Staff, students and faculty of the institute were awarded for their commendable services.
The Institute has already produced two batches of B Tech graduates and the third batch will go out in June 2016.
The students have been successfully placed in government and private organizations like Power Grid, Polaris, Infosys, IBM, WIPRO, to name a few. The 1st batch of M. Tech will be graduating in 2016.
The institute felicitated the legendary folk singer of Meghalaya, KeriosWahlang, the humble man who has been striving over the last several decades to preserve, popularize and propagate the traditional folk music of the indigenous people of the State.
He was presented with a citation by the Director Prof. D. K. Saikia.
