Conference on functioning of UN in city

SHILLONG: In its bid to educate students of the state and the region on the functioning of the United Nations, Shillong based vocational training provider, Polaris Solutions Enterprise will organise its maiden “Model United Nations Conference” on the theme ‘Coadunate Contra Conflict’ from April 21 to 23 at the Moreau Institute of Integral Training (MIIT), here.
Informing this here recently, Polaris International Model United Nations (PIMUN) secretary general, Stephen Irom Gatphoh said the main objective of the conference is to acquaint the delegates (participants) on the working of the United Nations.
PIMUN 2016 is expecting a turnout of about 250 delegates and will focus on four primary subjects through four simulated committees.
The first is the All India Political Party Meet to dwell on the Armed Forces Special Powers’ Act (AFSPA), the second will be the Special Political and Decolonization Committee to discuss the rights of refugees etc. This will be followed by a third discussion on Militarization of the Arctic Region and the fourth committee which is the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) will dwell and consider regulation and/or legalization of prostitution while combating child sex tourism.
Binalakshmi Nepramwill be the keynote speaker at the inaugural session.
