Tree felling on the rise in Garo Hills

SHILLONG: Illegal felling of trees for commercial purpose is on the rise in the reserve forests in East Garo Hills and three cases of tree felling have been reported in the range in the past one week.
Terakchi K Marak, ACF i/c Simsanggre Forest Range (EGH) lodged a complaint that on March 30 at around 4:40 pm, staff of Forest Department, detected some unidentified persons sectioning a freshly felled sal tree at Chidipo Reserve Forest (EGH).
On the same day, staff of Forest Department, detected one timber laden truck (AS-18C-4388) hired by one Md. Saiful, at Megapgre Forest Reserve.
An FIR has been filed in this regard.
Earlier on March 26, during patrolling duty, staff of Forest Department, detected one truck (without registration number). Later, Police arrested two persons identified as Sengseng N Sangma and  Ku R Marak.
