SHILLONG: The Meghalaya People United Front (MPUF) Laskein Block Circle has slammed the PWD (Roads) for alleged arbitrary extension of services of ad hoc employees leading to wastage of public money.
An RTI filed by the pressure group revealed that there are a number of ad hoc employees in the PWD (Roads) North Jowai Division whose names do not figure in the official list.
The pressure group also alleged that numerous employees place their applications for extension of service while the task undertaken by them is meaningless and results in wastage of public money.
It further alleged that ad hoc employees exist in the Shangpung and Nartiang Sub-Divisions under the PWD North Division even as the department rejected the claim.
The availability of finances for payment of salaries of the employees whose services  are extended time and again was also questioned.
“The amount of money meant for road construction goes to such employees as salaries,” it alleged while warning the department to swiftly do away with the ad hoc employees.
