TURA: The AYWO (Achik Youth Welfare Organization) has taken strong exception to the ‘goondagardi’ statement made against the Garo people by GHADC MDC, Sofior Rahman in the social media terming it irresponsible, racist and inflammatory.
On the ‘Chinky’ remark made by the MDC the Achik Youth Welfare Organization said that it carried no weight as Garos had never been called as such. It said that the remark was immature and ill informed as no one from among the Garos had ever made it a national issue for being called ‘Chinky’.
“The claim by Sofior Rahman that we sensationalized every chinky issue is a farce and can be termed as ‘factually incorrect’. We advise the MDC to get his facts right before making such kind of rash and misleading statement,” the Achik Youth Welfare Organization said.
Pointing out that the MDC himself was married to a Garo wife the Achik Youth Welfare Organization said that someone who makes ‘defamatory’ and ‘offensive’ statement about a tribe to which his own wife and in laws belong was not fit to give lectures about global world or society.
Reacting to the ‘Goondaism is in Garos blood’ statement, the Achik Youth Welfare Organization termed it as a ‘third grade statement’ and urged the MDC to refrain from making such derogatory comments in future to avoid flare up of communal tension between people of two communities.
